What We Provide

Full-Service Steel Street Plate Rentals

Streetwise offers comprehensive logistical support and deployment of high-strength steel road plates for municipal, utility, and heavy highway projects. We manage the heavy lifting, precise mechanical placement, and anchoring to ensure full compliance with public works standards and maximum safety for the motoring public.

Why Streetwise?

The Right Materials. The Right Crew. Every Time.

Massive Heavy-Duty Inventory

With an extensive stock of standard and oversized steel plates, we accommodate any trench width or traffic load requirement. Our fleet includes specialized non-slip coated options to preserve traction in wet or freezing winter conditions.

Public Works & DOT Compliance

Every street plate installation follows strict local municipality guidelines and state DOT specifications. From correct anchoring methods to mandatory asphalt ramping profiles, we keep your job site legally compliant and secure against shifting.

Fast, Reliable Logistics

Don’t tie up your crew or equipment hauling massive steel loads. Streetwise manages the entire logistical lifecycle—utilizing specialized trucks and heavy rigging to transport, position, pin, and remove the plates exactly when your schedule dictates.

How It Works

Simple Process With Professional Results

From calculating the necessary plate overlap to anchoring and ramping, Streetwise coordinates every logistical step so your excavation stays protected without disrupting local traffic flow.
01

Request a Quote

Contact us online or by phone. Tell us your project dates, trench dimensions, anticipated traffic speeds, and site location. We’ll calculate the proper plate thickness and overlap, responding with a fast, comprehensive quote.
02

Heavy Delivery & Rigging

Our transport crew loads and hauls the required steel infrastructure directly to your job site on schedule. Utilizing specialized crane trucks, we lift and transition the heavy plates safely off our beds and directly over your open excavation.
03

Secure Anchoring & Ramping

Our experienced team positions each plate with precise clearance over the trench walls. We pin or anchor the plates into the existing pavement as required by local code and apply smooth asphalt ramping to the approaches to ensure safe traffic flow.
04

Extraction & Site Cleared

When your backfill and utility work are complete, our team returns with heavy rigging to extract the plates, clear away the temporary transition asphalt, and haul the assets away—leaving your site completely clear for final paving.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions About Steel Street Plate Rentals

Have a question not answered here? Call us—we’re always happy to talk through your project needs.

As a standard engineering rule of thumb for traffic safety, a street plate must overlap the solid, undisturbed pavement on each side of the trench by at least 12 to 24 inches, depending on the trench depth and local public works specifications. This ensures the weight of passing vehicles is supported by stable ground rather than pushing against the loose trench walls.

Non-skid plates feature a specialized, highly textured epoxy or aggregate coating bonded to the top steel surface. This drastically improves tire traction, preventing vehicles and motorcycles from sliding, especially during rain, snow, or icy conditions. Many cities explicitly require non-skid surfaces for any plates placed on public roads or high-speed thoroughfares.

Yes, in the vast majority of roadway environments, anchoring is essential to prevent “creeping.” The repeated kinetic impact of braking and accelerating vehicles can cause unsecured steel plates to shift off the trench over time. We anchor the plates by drilling and pinning them directly into the surrounding asphalt or concrete, ensuring they remain perfectly static.

Because steel plates sit 1 to 1.25 inches above the existing road surface, they create a sharp vertical lip. To prevent tire, wheel, and suspension damage to passing vehicles, we install a temporary perimeter of cold-mix or hot-mix asphalt along the exposed edges. This creates a smooth, gradual wedge or ramp that allows cars to glide over the plate safely.

Our crane and trucks require clear vertical space to safely lift and maneuver these heavy loads. If your site has low-hanging tree branches, active power lines, or is located inside a parking garage, please inform us during the quote phase. We can coordinate alternative layout equipment or specialized rigging methods to safely navigate tight vertical clearances.

Plate thickness depends on the width of the open gap and the weight of the traffic passing over it. Standard 1-inch thick plates are typically approved for standard utility trenches under typical traffic loads, while wider excavations or heavy commercial vehicle routes may require 1.25-inch or thicker structural steel. Our team can help review your site conditions to select the correct asset class.
