Non-skid plates feature a specialized, highly textured epoxy or aggregate coating bonded to the top steel surface. This drastically improves tire traction, preventing vehicles and motorcycles from sliding, especially during rain, snow, or icy conditions. Many cities explicitly require non-skid surfaces for any plates placed on public roads or high-speed thoroughfares.

Yes, in the vast majority of roadway environments, anchoring is essential to prevent “creeping.” The repeated kinetic impact of braking and accelerating vehicles can cause unsecured steel plates to shift off the trench over time. We anchor the plates by drilling and pinning them directly into the surrounding asphalt or concrete, ensuring they remain perfectly static.

Because steel plates sit 1 to 1.25 inches above the existing road surface, they create a sharp vertical lip. To prevent tire, wheel, and suspension damage to passing vehicles, we install a temporary perimeter of cold-mix or hot-mix asphalt along the exposed edges. This creates a smooth, gradual wedge or ramp that allows cars to glide over the plate safely.
